....And Different

Today was a pretty amazing day, the blog post I wrote about International Women's Day was re-published on Mia Freedman's site which resulted in a lot of traffic back to my blog and a lot of conversation. Then after the fantastic Luke McCormack forwarded on my blog to the movers and shakers at Deloitte I got a call from our CEO and met him (but that's another post). It also coincided with receiving the renewal notice for my domain name. Which made me realise that it has been one year since I started on this blog project.

I cannot believe that it has only been one year since I was trying and failing to get a new job and thought to myself, 'well, I can write - why not start a blog and see if that works', it was three months in that I was sitting on the couch in the dark and thought, 'well, why not try and use this thing to get myself a job'.

That was in June and in October I started my role at Deloitte.

I was told at the time by many many people not to do it, not to write the blog posts I was writing, not to write about wanting a new job and definitely not to put myself in a position where I would risk failing. I was told not to do something different, not to go outside of what was considered normal and not to focus on the company I wanted to work for.

I did not listen.

There's a quote I love from Einstein which is something along the lines of, 'there is no more certain sign of insanity than to do the same thing over and over and expect the results to be different'. We can continue to do things the same way we always have, to go to the job we hate, to stay in the mundane relationship we're in because it's easier.

Or we can take chances. We can expect more, we can be different.
One year ago, I was faced with a choice. I could continue the to live my life in the same way or I could do something, take a chance, take a leap and try for more.

I made the choice, I took the risk.  Will you?
